Brief
M brought a ring to us that she had inherited from her Mother-in-law. The setting had been worn down and was almost entirely covering the central stone. We would need to prize the stones out from the setting to be able to study the stones in detail. It was upon un-setting the stones that we discovered the hidden gem was in fact a beautiful emerald! It even delightfully surprised us!
Design
The stone had been chipped at some point in its life so we re-polished it and then sat down with M to discuss the design ideas. It is only when we can see the exact size and shape of the stones that we can discuss the ongoing designs. M wanted to re-purpose the ring into an elegant pendant for a necklace. Her wishes were to keep to the format of the original ring. Meaning the stones were to stay in the order of the ring. Two diamonds set either side of the emerald. M wanted to keep the elegant three stone format for sentimentality. Yasmin proceeded to create multiple designs that would sensitively reflect the stones original setting. Together they chose the design that felt most respectful and graceful towards the original inherited piece whilst giving them a complementary and contemporary new look and function.
Creation
The centre stone was unset and it revealed that it was significantly worn and scratched which hid not only the beauty of the stone but also its real identity. We could confirm that the gemstone was a stunning emerald! We had the emerald re cut and polished and the end result was amazing. M couldn’t quite believe the transformation. Jonathan then set about making the platinum pendant design which really made the most of the stunning stones. We always create pendants first and never presume the chain. How the pendant sits is a personal choice that we like to make with the client once the pendant is complete. The pendant was to be claw set using platinum.
The end result
This transformation has been incredibly fulfilling. We are thrilled to say that we have turned a lifetimes well-loved ring into a well-loved pendant with a whole new lease of life!
