Brief
We were recently asked to make a rather special ring…….one that had to contain elements of three generations of jewellery, all of which had huge sentimental value. It was lovely to spend time hearing stories of all the family connections and memories that the rings held, and even lovelier to have seen a picture of all the generations together.
This became the starting point for the brief for the ring. It had to feature the gemstones that belonged to each generation, so that the ring would be a permanent memento for those precious family members.
Design
Having discussed our customers likes and dislikes in jewellery we quickly established that flowing shapes and curves was the direction we needed to take for the design, together with the fact that it needed to be quite a statement ring, so there we began! Working with the selection of Sapphires and Diamonds we created three designs, all of which used stones from specific rings to ensure that there was a representation from each generation in the design.
We presented the designs to our customer who loved them. Deciding on a design is never easy, so it was great that she had invited a friend to come to help with the decision making. Our designs are all life size, so it was easy to visualise the finished ring on her finger. So…… with the design chosen, we now set about making the ring.
Creation
One of the sapphires was very scratched on the surface so in the first instance we had this re-polished. Once this had been completed the real beauty of the stone had been revealled, and now we we able to model the ring and cast it. Once it had been assembled, set and polished, it was complete and looked stunning.
The result
We presented the ring to the customer and it was lovely to see it on her finger. She loved the result and more importantly the significance of it. It will now always be a reminder of those cherished family members, and also be a ring that will be worn and enjoyed.
